The FTSC Women's Indoor Soccer Cup was started in 2010 as a means to bring a fun and competitive soccer venue for women in the Washington, DC area. Originally held at the Rockville Soccer Sportsplex, this tournament had two divisions-- upper and lower-- and used just one field. The event hosted 8 teams-- four in the upper and four in the lower division.
In the second year (2011), the tournament grew tremendously and hosted 14 teams, still just two divisions, and added a second field. There were eight teams in the lower division and six in the upper. In 2012, we expanded to use all three fields at the Sportsplex in order to decrease wait time between games. We again had 14 teams and repeated this format in 2013.
In the fifth year running (2014), the tournament grew again. We hosted 16 teams and moved to the Dulles Sportsplex. We hosted eight teams in both the upper and lower divisions. Over 190 players in the tournament! However, despite this added capacity, the tournament still had teams on a waiting list.
As a result, for 2015, the tournament expanded to be able to host 18 teams and added a third division for teams to choose from: upper, lower, and Over 30. In this sixth year of the event we had over 210 athletes competing! We sold out early again (by the first week in February).
In the 9th year of the event, 2018, we increased capacity and again every slot filled! With a rush of teams registering all before the end of January, we maxed out with 22 teams registered in three divisions! We repeated in our 10th year with 22 teams in 2019. In 2020 and 2021 we took a COVID break.
In 2022 we returned for our 11th annual event and had 20 teams. We were again at the Dulles Sportsplex. 2022 saw the very first Over 40 division after having Over 30 for several years, expanding us to four divisions. In 2023, we continued having four divisions and did some stretching to host 25 teams. For 2024, we are keeping the four divisions and setting a max of 6 teams per division, maxing out at 24 teams, to create equal spacing of times between games and a better experience for players.
This tournament always looks for player feedback and has taken the comments into consideration when making adjustments to the event. Players are why we are here-- and we will continue to do our best to provide a positive soccer experience for all of our participants. This event is run 100% by volunteers.
